Sleepio: Insomnia Treatment

Struggling to fall asleep, stay asleep or wake too early? Sleepio delivers cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) digitally, a clinically proven treatment that works on the habits and worries that keep insomnia going. CBT-I is the treatment NICE recommends first for long-term insomnia, ahead of sleeping tablets. Unlike sleep tips, meditation apps or short-term fixes, Sleepio gives you a structured treatment to work through over six weeks, consisting of six CBT-I sessions and time to practice what you’ve learnt in between. It adapts to how you’re sleeping and explains why each change helps. What you’ll get: Six CBT-I sessions delivered over six weeks A tailored treatment based on how you’re sleeping Practical techniques to try between sessions A way to see how your sleep changes over time No prescription, referral or waiting list - you can start straight away What to expect Sleepio takes some time and effort. You'll work through six short CBT-I sessions, with time between each one to put what you’ve learnt into practice. Some of those changes take a bit of getting used to at first, so your sleep might not improve in a straight line. That's a normal part of how the treatment works. A difficult night while you're making changes isn't a sign you're doing it wrong. Sleepio guides you through each step, so you always know what you're working towards, and if you have a question you can email the Sleepio team directly. Improvement is usually gradual. You don’t need to get every night right - what matters is trying the techniques and keeping going to give the changes time to take effect. Common questions Is Sleepio right for me? Sleepio is designed for adults who regularly struggle to fall asleep, stay asleep, wake too early, or spend long periods awake during the night. What is CBT-I? CBT-I stands for cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia. It is distinct from general CBT, and is specially designed to treat insomnia. It works on the behaviours and thought patterns that can keep insomnia going, including disrupted sleep patterns and worry about sleep. Is this just another sleep app? No, Sleepio delivers structured CBT-I treatment for insomnia. It has been clinically proven in 31 trials, and is recommended by NICE, (the body that sets NHS treatment guidelines), as the first-line treatment to try for insomnia ahead of sleeping tablets. How is it different from sleeping tablets? Sleeping tablets can help some people in the short term. Sleepio works on the patterns that keep insomnia going, with the aim of improving sleep over time. If you’re currently taking medication, it’s important that you consult with your prescriber first. How long does it take? Sleepio includes six sessions over six weeks. Each session takes around 10 minutes with time between sessions to put what you’ve learnt into practice. You can record your progress with the built-in sleep diary. Will it work straight away? Sleepio does not promise an overnight fix. Improvement tends to build gradually, as you’re learning new techniques, which you’ll need to keep practising. Think of it like physio - some of the techniques can feel difficult to do at first, but with practice, they become easier. Sleep can fluctuate throughout the treatment, but that is a normal part of the process. Do I need a referral? No. If you live in Scotland or parts of England, you can sign up without a referral, and start treatment straight away Is Sleepio free? Sleepio is free through the NHS for adults aged 18 and over in Scotland and parts of England. Download Sleepio and start clinically proven treatment for insomnia today.
